Dudley Do-Right: Feeling dunked on? Try THIS.

Some mornings we wake up ready to take on the world. Like Shaq.

Other days, we feel dunked on. Like Chris Dudley.

While Mr. Dudley is usually ridiculed as “a practice dummy” in this video, I would argue that he delivers a two-part master class in resilience.

1) We CAN’T control our circumstances. We just can’t. — Even though we may work hard to enhance our skills and put ourselves in the right spot, sometimes the forces against us are unstoppable.

2) We CAN control our response. Always. — Dudley does four things in this brief clip that are worth noting — and emulating:

  • He courageously takes the hit.

  • He tries his best to hold on.

  • He bounces up quickly after being pushed down.

  • He tosses the ball back and says, “Run it again, big fella.”

Sure, we may never have the physical strength to attack like Shaq. 

But like Chris, we can always find a way to bounce back.

And for a regular guy like me, that’s much more impressive.
