What does Christianity really mean?

The faith of Amy Coney Barrett has created much debate during her Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

Christianity is Christ.

It’s the perfect life of Christ.

It’s the brutal execution of Christ.

It’s the resurrection of Christ.

It’s examining the words of Christ. If we find those words believable, then we’ll trust Him as a spiritual authority. And if we really trust that He has our best interests in mind, we’ll follow His lead.

It’s worshipping Christ for who He is. And for what’s He’s done.

It’s remembering to connect with Christ throughout the day. Often.

Christianity is Christ.

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let those who boast boast about this: that they understand and know me, that I am the Lord.”Jeremiah 9:23-24

It can’t be THAT simple, can it?

There’s got to be something WE need to do, right?

So we’ve created checklists and worksheets.

We’ve turned a gift into a goal.

We’ve turned praise into pursuit.

Yet another way to feel better about ourselves through our efforts.

Consume more.

Do more.

Be more.

Until we can’t.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:8-10

“Help!” — That’s the password for rebooting my inner hard drive.

“I can’t” — Two words that help refocus my affections.

“Less of me” — Three words that reframe the meaning of life.

“More of you, Jesus” — Four words I want to live by.

Christianity is ...

  • Examining.

  • Believing.

  • Trusting.

  • Following.

Christ.

Alone.
